Review: My Baby First Steps for the Nintendo Wii
I tried My Baby First Steps, and the gameplay is simple and intuitive, if not particularly deep. You use the Wii-mote to encourage the baby to walk (by manipulating an on-screen cuddly toy), to talk (by pointing at things and clicking the button, or by making various motions with the Wii-mote), to climb stairs, etc. You get to feed the baby (you wave the Wii-mote to cool the food before feeding it to your baby), you get to take pictures of the baby (and send them to Grandma, who then showers you with grandmotherly affection in the form of clothes and accessories), put the baby to bed, and (of course) change the diapers. While there isn't a lot of deep game play here, that can actually appeal to younger and newer players, who will enjoy seeing the child respond to the different activities. Controls are responsive, and new "missions" are introduced by a nurse and doctor character in text bubbles - so your child needs to be able to do some reading to use this game, or the help of a parent. The babies are pretty darn cute, though, as are the outfits. My sister-in-law caught me shopping for my virtual baby, and immediately had me trying on different outfits, which she seemed to enjoy.
