Jewel of the Nile ... ummm ... I mean, Jewel Master Egypt

Hi Honey. New game, huh? Just came in the mail I guess? What is it?

Jewel Master: Egypt for the DS.

Oh. It looks nice. Kind of like Bejeweled. You just match things, right?

There’s a little more to it than that...hang on...just got to...

No big deal. I can see you’re busy. I’ll let you get on with playing. Hey? What’s with the water jar on the top screen?

It’s ... it’s ... Dang it! I ran out of time. The water jar is a timer showing how much time is left to finish the level.

Oh. Sorry. Well, I’ll let you get back to the game.

The level ended. What did you want to know?

Nothing. I’ll talk to you later. Go back to your game.

You’re sure?

Yeah. Enjoy. You can tell me all about it later so I can write the review.

Okay. If you’re sure.

Yeah. I’m sure.

Here I go....

Have fun with it...Say, that looks really interesting. Can’t you do diagonal matches?

Hmmm? What? No. Oh bother. The matches have to be vertical or horizontal with at least three gems of the same kind.

That looks easy enough. What’s the catch?

Here...I’ll pause it so we can talk.

No. Really. I don’t want to disturb you. Go back to your game.

Okay. Hmmm...what’s the best move here...

Match the jewels and win a prize ... a chance to play the next level!

It’s just that there doesn’t seem to be much to hold your interest if all you’re doing in matching.

You have to wipe out the blue squares by matching the jewels on top of them.

Oh. That’s clever. It looks like the playing field is pretty interesting too.

Yeah. Changes every level and there are 100 levels. Dang it! The timer just ran out again.

Too bad. Looks like a hard level.

It wouldn’t be if I could concentrate for two seconds.

Ummmm...right. Shutting up.

Thank-you. Third time’s the charm, right? Here we go!

It’s just that I have to write the review this weekend soooo...I ought to know at least a little about the game.

Uh-huh. And?

Well, I’d like to play it a little.

You can. When I’m done.

How long will that be?

One hundred levels, remember?

Oh. Right. Sorry.

It’s okay. The timer ran out on me again.

I’ll go somewhere else for a while.

Look. Let me tell you about the game.

Like I said, it’s a match three with the twist that you destroy certain squares to clear the board. After all of the squares are cleared, a scarab appears at the top of the screen and you have to destroy gems to get it to the bottom. At the later levels, there are locked and double-locked squares which require multiple matches to destroy. You also earn resources which can be used to purchase special powers like lightning bolts, whirlwinds and dynamite. These -- when activated by completing the correct matches -- can help you by giving you the ability to clear or change boards.

You’re also buying things like water wells, temples, and so on. It’s sort of like building an Egyptian dynasty, but you’re not really ‘building’ anything, just buying stuff.

Once you've finished a level, it's available to play in an un-timed relaxed mode. That gives you a chance to go back and explore different strategies. It's a really fun game!

And it’s thoroughly addictive. I’ve been playing since the mail arrived today. If I could just get the next level complete, I’d put it down for the rest of the day. I swear.

Sounds fun. Hope I get to play it.

You will. I only have sixty-four levels to go.
