Review: Fantasy Aquarium WorldIt is rare to find a game that teaches patience. As a parent, I think we would all like for our children to learn a little more patience. Fantasy Aquarium World by Destineer may be just the tool you need. The game is exactly what the title suggests, an Aquarium. You select fish for your tank, feed them, decorate the tank with coral and rocks and watch the fish thrive, or not. Time in the game is real time- if your fish is 5 days old it is really 5 days old. The game provides a beautiful aquatic setting with stunning fish and combines the sites with demands on taking care of the creatures and the tank. The game starts with challenges that help the player learn the basics. Things like placing decorations, changing tank gravel and background and cleaning the tank are all included. Once you place a fish in your tank you are challenged to move it to an isolation tank which involves catching the little guy in the fish net (not an easy task in real life and not easy here either but a good use of the Wii Remote) and to feed him. You can check on the status of fish for health and hunger as well as the status of the tank to determine if it needs cleaning. As you achieve levels of success with challenges you can unlock fish to add, decorations (which include a treasure chest and boat- classics), gravel options, background options and food options. There are over 25 species of fish represented and the more advanced options are sharks and even a Lock Ness Monster! Things to consider as your fish population grows is what fish get along with one another and what food to feed them. It can be a daunting task. This game is not only fun entertainment (and pretty to look at) but also teaches. Patience, as I mentioned, is necessary as it is not a shooting or racing game, there is no instant feedback. It takes time. It also takes commitment. I would suggest this title for anyone preparing children for a first pet. It is great for teaching responsibility and if they can't care for a virtual fish, how can they be ready for the real thing? So the bottom line is this is a great title for fun and education. It isn't a game that I would expect a child to play for hours a day but it would be one that I would anticipate, if they get into it, they would want to check in on daily. And who wouldn't want a sea turtle in the living room aquarium? Rating: 8 of 10
