For many people, Wii Sports was enough reason to buy a Wii, but if you've had yours for a while and are looking for more sports games for the Wii that you can play with your entire family, up to 4 players, Deca Sports may be just what you're looking for.

The full game won't be out until May 13, but we got a chance to look at an incomplete preview version. To borrow a phrase, here's the story so far:

Figure Skating The game features a total of 10 games:

  • Beach Volleyball
  • Snowboard Cross
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Curling
  • Figure Skating
  • Archery
  • Supercross
  • Soccer
  • Kart Racing

The game features 4 single-player modes (Open Match, Tournament, Deca Challenge, and Deca League) plus multiplayer, some games offering cooperative modes and others only competitive.

Our preview demo included Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Supercross, and Figure Skating. 8 teams with different strengths (4 in the demo) offer a nice variety, but no using your Mii.

Badminton

In Badminton, you wield the Wiimote much like a racket, and the experience is pretty immersive. This game looks to be a lot of fun and the kind of game they included the Wiimote straps for.

Beach Volleyball

With controls similar to Badminton, Beach Volleyball adds a second player per team and the dynamic of the bump, set, spike combination.

Supercross

Supercross

Remember that this is a collection of minigames, and don't expect MX vs. ATV. Using Excite Truck-style controls, work your way around 3 tracks varying in difficulty and complexity. I'm hoping the physics will be improved in the final version, because it feels more like you're on skis than wheels.

Figure Skating

Simple enough for anyone to play but difficult master, this game adds the nunchuck to move around the ice and requires a simple flip of the Wiimote to perform a predetermined trick--no button combinations to remember.

Offering a real mix of games, we're looking forward to the full version, which will offer something for everyone and enough variation in difficulty to make it approachable for preschoolers but difficult for adults.
