Review: Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle & Coo Doll

Giggle & Coo doll imageMy youngest 2 girls like to play with dolls. They're very good at making "baby" and "little kid" noises. My 6 year old acts like a little mommy and can often be found caring for a "baby". The Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle & Coo Doll caught her eye immediately. I couldn't get it out of the box fast enough for her, and she played with it for a few hours.

There are 3 settings for playing with this doll: off, motion and sound, and motion with no sound. The girls prefer the motion and sound. A sensor in the forehead detects motion, and that will start the giggling, cooing, and movements. The doll's head and arms move. My husband gets tired of hearing it after a while, but honestly, it didn't bother me at all. I think it sounds cute. Besides giggling and making noises, it says "mama" which little mommies will be happy to hear. It also blows a raspberry, which is my girls' favorite sound.

The doll comes with a pacifier that is connected to the bib with a ribbon. Also included is a bottle, a rattle (toy keys) and a paper birth certificate. If you put the pacifier or bottle in the doll's mouth, it will stop moving and babbling and will make sucking noises for a little while. When you remove it from the mouth, it starts again. Note that while not small enough to be considered a choking hazard, the key ring is fairly small and may pose a problem if you have an older child with a bigger mouth that still has a tendency to put things in it.

The doll comes in a variety of different colored outfits. 3 AA batteries are also included. The doll has a recommended age of 2 and up. My 6 year old absolutely loves it and even my 10 year old will play with it a little from time to time (especially when she plays with her sister), although it wouldn't be something she'd request for herself, and I think most 10 year olds would get bored with it quickly. If you have a little one that likes to play "mommy", this is a great doll that gives kids a chance to care for a baby that's sure to bring smiles to their faces.

doll says something weird

did your doll not say something? our coos and says mama and then something that sounds like " the guardian of the light". it's freaking me out!

doll says weird stuff

I just saw a piece on the news about this (NYC local Fox 5 news). Some people thought it said "Islam is the light" (which might make sense if there was a mixup with dolls meant to sell in another country?), and other people thought it said something about Satan!
Someone on eToys said it's supposed to say "tickle me, mommy", "i love you, mommy", and "i'm a big girl, mommy", but when they showed it talking on the news it didn't sound like any of that. I had a hard time even hearing the weird stuff other people think it says.

Subliminal Message - Islam is the light

I saw the same news report last night and was shocked. I have two of these dolls and agree that they're very cute and can really draw little children in with the motion and sound. After hearing the doll on the news I went and got my two dolls out and turned them on and they do very clearly say Islam is the Light. When you first turn the doll on - the first two rounds the doll just coos and makes sounds like it's trying to say something - but just isn't quite getting it out - on the third round it goes through the same babble and then clear as a bell says "Islam is the Light". Then if you leave the doll on and let it play - it seems to say it clearly more frequently.

I respect the fact that different people have different belief systems - I object to the fact that this message is deliberately hidden from the consumer who may or may not hold the same belief system. If I had known that's what the doll says - I woulnd't have bought the doll. That's my choice.

I completely agree with you.

I completely agree with you. I first saw the doll at a family function in which another child had the doll. My daughter liked it, so I bought one for her. We've had it for awhile, and I always thought the cooing sounds were cute, and fairly life like. When I heard the story about the doll saying "Islam is the light," I was skeptical. I figured it would be difficult to impossible to make out. I never dreamed of taking the doll away, or back to the store where I bought it. But when I listened to the doll, it was so clear what she was saying. My mouth hit the floor. How could I have not picked that up before?! The more you listen to it, the more unsettling it is. It's just plain creepy. It's definitely NOT something I want my daughter repeating. I, too, object to the message being hidden. I would never have purchased the doll in the first place, had I known about the message it would include. I'm very interested in finding out how that happened in the first place.

sadistic baby

OWASSO, OK (Neighbor News) -

OWASSO, OK (Neighbor News) - When Gary Rofkahr from Owasso heard there was a baby doll on local store shelves that said, "Islam is the Light," he didn't believe it.

He bought the Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle and Coo doll to see for himself and he was shocked to hear the words, "Islam is the Light" among other baby gibberish including "Mama."

"I have a 1-year-old granddaughter," he said. "It makes me mad that someone is trying to indoctrinate our children with an innocent toy."

He called Fisher Price to complain. He was told they were aware of the problem and would gladly refund his money.

"I told them I didn't want my money back, I wanted them to pull these dolls off the shelf," he said. "They told me they can't pull an item just because a customer requests it, they have to have corporate direction. I told them I would get corporate direction and get back to them. I told them I'm from a town of 30,000 people with 46 churches in it and I know someone who attends each one. I'm going to everyone I know to tell them about this and I'm going to call Target and Wal-Mart and see if we can pull this doll off the shelves."

"We've pulled it," said Mitzi Tatowicz, co-manager of the Owasso Wal-Mart,

She said Wal-Mart had heard about the doll and it's recording several days ago pulled the doll from the local store. Apparently, overnight the dolls had been put back on the shelves, but Tatowicz said "We've voluntarily pulled them and believe they shouldn't be on our shelves."

Local Target officials refused to comment on whether the dolls were still on shelves and directed the Owasso Reporter to a corporate media relations phone number that went directly to voicemail. At around 11 a.m. Wednesday, an Owasso Reporter employee purchased one of the dolls, which are made in China, at the Target in Smith Farm Marketplace for $19.99. UPDATE - As of 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, an Owasso Reporter employee confirmed several of the dolls were still on store shelves at the Owasso Target.

Upon further investigation, the Owasso Reporter came across some Web sites where others have discovered this doll and also claim she utters the words, "Satan is King." When the Owasso Reporter contacted Fisher Price to ask for official comment, they were redirected to a Mattel representative. When an employee called the number, they received a voicemail message that directed them to an email.

The voicemail message and email had not been returned by press time. The email did receive an Out of Office AutoReply that said, "If you are consumer and have a question about a product, please email our Consumer Relations department directly at service@mattel.com." The Fisher Price inquiry number on the doll's box is 1-800-524-8697.

Check for updates of this situation and don't forget to listen to our attached video to see a video of the baby doll and hear what she has to say.

Update - Reporter Amanda Morgan-Scott received a reply from her email to Mattel. The email has been copied and pasted in full below.

As a result of a recent news report regarding our Little Mommy Cuddle 'n Coo dolls saying an inappropriate phrase, we immediately undertook a thorough investigation to fully understand the issue.

A summary of our findings include:

*The Little Mommy Cuddle 'n Coo dolls feature realistic baby sounds including sweet cooing, giggling and baby babble with no real sentence structure.

*The only scripted word that the doll actually says is "mama." There is a sound that may resemble something close to the word "night, right, or light." All of the other sounds are baby sounds with no real words or sentence structure.

*We have found that if told to listen for a particular phrase, you may hear something similar due to the power of suggestion.

*Actual sounds may be imprecise due to sound compression played through the very tiny inexpensive toy speakers from the doll.

As a result of these findings, we remain confident in the high quality standards of our Little Mommy Cuddle 'n Coo dolls. If any consumer has any questions or concerns regarding any Mattel toys, they may contact

our Mattel consumer relations center at 800/524-TOYS (8697), and we will be happy to assist them. We take each call from our consumers very seriously and do our best to help address their concerns.

UPDATE: At 2:19 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, Target had to call police when a customer asked for the Little Mommy doll to be pulled from their shelves and the store refused. The police report says, "Subject came in last night and demanded for us to remove some merchandise from the racks due to inappropriate language. The company did not remove item."

My daughter got one not even

My daughter got one not even a month ago and takes it everywhere. The problem is, the doll's clothes are getting grungy. The clothes are attached to the doll, so they can't be removed and washed. My mother in law suggested putting a different outfit on her and then taking that outfit off when it needs to be washed. That solution will only work if you find an outfit with footsies, otherwise the original footsies will be dirty.

devil doll

Where can I get the one that says islam is the light and satan is king cause that is far cooler than what it is supposed to do.
