Who is GrannyWii?If you're paying attention to the site, you might have noticed a new name among the reviewers....GrannyWii GrannyWii is a real-ish person and she's based on my retirement-age mother. Let me give you a little background I've been a video game fan most of my life and Mom was always tolerant even if she failed to see the appeal. That changed in Christmas 2008 when Dad managed to track down a Wii for her. She played a couple of games (including the old version of The Price is Right,) but what really caught her attention was Animal Crossing. From there it was only a matter of a few weeks until she owned a DS as well. My mother had turned into a full-fledged senior gamer. As a reviewer, I sometimes find myself with a long list of review games that I have to play. For me, writing the reviews isn't as tough as finding the time to play them thoroughly. I was starting to despair at the length of my unplayed-games list when my clever wife suggested a brilliant idea. Why not have my mother play some of the games, jot a few notes, and then I could review them from her perspective? Mom went for the idea and I shuffled a couple of game-show-themed games her way. The first of these reviews Family Feud 2010 goes up on the site today. To keep them separate, they'll appear under the 'GrannyWii' identity. Mom'll play the games and give me her impression, I'll do the writing, and you'll get the benefit of the perspective of a senior gamer. Along the way, I'll probably have a little fun with the GrannyWii character. From time to time I'll toss in little asides which probably aren't things Mom would really say, but they'll make the reviews more entertaining -- I hope. I guess what I'm saying is that if something offends you, it probably came from me. If you have any feedback as we move ahead with this new review identity, feel free to drop a comment on the site or even e-mail us. We'd love to hear from you!
