Service: Nintendo Wii Update #3It's back! My Wii arrived home today after a brief stay at Camp Chatsworth. The box it returned in was very non-descript and gave no clue that it contained a Wii. (In the initial shipping instructions, Nintendo made a point of telling me NOT to ship the unit in the original packaging as that might draw unwanted attention.) Inside I found my Wii console much as it was when I shipped it out. The tape I'd stuck to the side to hold the envelope (per Nintendo's instructions) was still there. The only sign that anything had changed was on the bottom. There are three small plastic squares and one of them isn't quite flush now. My guess is that these are screw covers and they had to be removed to service the unit. The invoice in the box indicated that they had "REPL DAMAGED COMPONENTS". Another sheet titled "Post Wii Repair Instructions" had a check mark next to the statement "We have verified your problem and have repaired or replaced the defective components." Additional (unchecked) statements on the page cover everything from "While we were unable to duplicate the problem, we have replaced the component(s) that we feel may fix the problem you described" to "The batteries in your Wii Remote, which were low in voltage, may have cause the problem you experienced." After a brief operational test, the Wii appears to be functioning normally. The disc drive seems a bit quieter, so that may have been the component that was replaced. We'll give it a more thorough test in the days to come and I'll report back one way or another in about a week. (Sooner if there's a problem.)
