Tip: How to create an iTunes Store Account without a Credit Card

ScreenshotFor Christmas, my daughter received an iTunes gift card. She has her own computer and her own iPod, so she wanted access to the iTunes store to get her own music, but when I tried to set up an account for her, the store required a credit card or Paypal account. I don't want to give her my credit card information, since I don't want her buying additional songs--I just want her to use her gift card.

So I did a little digging around and found the secret. According to Apple, you can create an account without payment information, but you have to go through the app store. Without being logged in, try downloading a free app. You'll see a button to create a new account. Click that button, enter the information it asks for, and when you get to the payment page, choose "none" for payment. You're all set.

This also comes in handy if you'd like to leave reviews at the iTunes store to review your favorite podcasts without a credit card.
