Family tech during a tornado warning

I'm typing this post from under our basement steps, since we're under a tornado warning for the next 45 minutes. Because we have weather.com's Notify service alerting our mobile phones about the warning, we knew the moment they issued the warning and could take immediate action. (Our local siren doesn't run for tornadoes.) Now think about that for a minute: sitting on a concrete floor (we grabbed blankets on the way down to sit on) with 3 kids for nearly an hour. While that prospect might seem a bit nerve wracking for some, the time is moving quickly for us.

Once we got downastairs, Teresa pulled up the radar and severe weather statement on her iPod Touch and saw that we had about 30 minutes before the tornado would be close to us, so I went back upstairs and grabbed a few items, including a few extra blankets.

Oops, they just updated to an extra half hour.

So now, to pass the time until the warning's over, Hannah's using her Leapster, Kimberly is listening to her iPod, and Dani is reading a book. We're streaming our local AM station via their website (radio reception in the basement is sketchy; wi-fi, crystal clear) on my iBook, and Teresa is watching the radar on her iPod Touch. Oh, and I'm blogging.
