Rock Band 2 includes more songs on its list than any other rhythm game to date, and it also includes a code for a pack of 20 additional songs. With so many songs, parents may not have time to sort through all of them before playing the game with their kids (yeah, we encourage that), so below we include a list of songs we consider suitable for all ages, with notes following. Note that we will not include all of the subsequent downloadable songs you can buy separately, since that list is ever growing. Just google the song lyrics before you buy it.

As always, parents know what their kids can and can't handle and what they consider appropriate for their homes. We found that a lot of the above songs have fairly depressing lyrics, and some that didn't make the list had no offensive language, but strong references to adult themes that seemed too blatant for kids. Also note that at least one song uses "God" in a way that may offend families of certain religious persuasions, but we left it in because it was possibly ambiguous.
What do you think? Do you disagree with some of our decisions to list or cut certain songs? Leave a comment below!

This is great work. Just a couple things:
- "Kids in America" - seems a little adult themed to me
- "Where'd you go" - I think you missed the language in this one
- I noticed a few of them that seem to be about suicide or self-mutilation or otherwise very dark (Painkiller, Today, Chop Suey, Souls of Black). I know you mentioned there were some like this; if you know what they are, it would be helpful to mark them.
This is just a first pass, but I wanted to get these comments in right away for the benefit of all. Overall, great work.
You don't know of any way to bypass or substitute songs in tour mode, do you?
My only suggestion with the inappropriate songs in tour mode is to skip the singing and just do guitar and/or drums. The lyrics fade into the background for the most part. I thought about marking the darker ones, but it was most of them, honestly. I also thought about how explicit the lyrics are in the sense of what kids will get while singing. It's one thing to sit and read the lyrics and examine them. It's not nearly as thought-provoking to read them off the screen and pay more attention to the pitch than the lyrics, so if the song has some mature themes but subtle enough that kids wouldn't notice, I let it pass. Kids in America was one of those songs, and I debated over it. I finally went with it, because I was a teen when it was popular, I listened to it, and I never caught the innuendo.
Thanks for the list!
I'll have to print it out and pore over it next to the full list.
